Vote for my 'Glitter-Witch Tribal Art Print' to be on tees!

So I bit the bullet and entered this into the current 'Dotti Design-a-bits' competition. Most of the material on there is not very well drawn and as this was more of a art/design brief I thought I'd give it a shot. I have been so 100% dedicated to working on this upcoming exhibition I have been forgetting to create art! Boo! So I thought I'd enter another comp.

Admittedly I'm waiving my moral & intellectual rights if it wins and goes on t-shirts but I figure that this piece isn't quite my cup of tea any who... It's not like me to draw this kind of indie style stuff. I am not into drawing girls with flowers in their hair, it's just not me. I like big-lipped bitties with sharp edges and bright colours. Intense.

The reason I was compelled to draw this was that I stumbled upon a site called 'HIPSTER WIFE HUNTING'... I think it was taking the piss but didn't announce that it was so that more hipsters would follow it and feel good about themselves... or something like that. I mean, hipsters... *RAGE*.... hold me back, I'm about to generalize!!! SO UNORIGINAL PARADING AS ORIGINAL! DAMN! I have nothing against you if you are an original, crafty and cool human being but the idea that you begin by LABELLING YOURSELF as a 'HIPSTER' really bugs me! You are just you, don't label yourself and don't let others label you.

You are original, be yourself and people with love you, I will love you, okay? Okay. I love you, original human beings. You hear me? I LOVE YOU AND I MEAN IT.

Where was I? Oh yeah, this was born of my hatred of those hipsters who own feather headdresses... ie 'fashionable' rape of culturally important items. I blame Ke$ha. I hate her. What a hipster.

ALL ABOARD!

"Is this friendship? I THINK SO!"

Me and my new best friend, the belt sander...
(Sorry Kit & Clav!)

Ahoy!

Hello lovely kitty cats, boy do I have some news for you...
So recently I've actually been setting up an exhibition, it's
called 'ALL ABOARD' and is showing in Fitzroy on Smith St.
Grumpy's Green, the wonderful eco-friendly bar is hosting our
show of hand-painted skateboard decks! We are about to announce
our bands shortly and a few more artists. Everything is bright,
sugar-laden, poppy and deliciously urban! We have street artists,
photographers, fine artists, animators, designers and illustrators.

We are like a creative sample box of fine chocolates!

We are creating an artistic hub on April 10th, live painting, drinks,
live music, art and lots of love. A lot of blood, sweat and tears has
already gone into the show and the art hasn't even been made yet.
My piece involves organs, gemstones, ghosts, tiny teeth and jellyfish.
Try telling me you're not even SLIGHTLY intrigued. n__n

I will be posting more info soon, but for now check out
it's Kitty & I's studio. We are a powerhouse!

Hope you all stay tuned, and don't abandon the ship
that is April's ALL ABOARD exhibition!

Gems, Glitter and Grumpy's Green,

Amz;

Hello!

Happy (belated) Valentine's day to you all. Here's a little update on life right now...

So the market stall I held went okay, sold enough to
just budge onto the profit side of things!
(By $1 mind you, but shush!) I had some lovely feedback, but the crown wasn't mine
so I didn't sell a huge amount. I spent most of the day chasing the paper doilies
that *HAD* been a good idea due to the stupid amount of wind.
Everyone there was crazy nice, especially the organizer of the event, Nicole.
I also ran into a fellow illustration, Dean Jones, he is an incredibly talented digital artist
that incidentally wandered over to my stall. Check out his work if you get a chance.
Here are a couple of photos from the day, by both me and knicked off the Charles Street fb!

(The entertainment on the day was sweet as! There's me in the back.)

(and there's me looking like a complete noodle!)

On another note my valentine's day was good.

I made up a bunch of little felt buddies for the market, and as I was in a felting mood
I ended up also felting a present for my beautiful boyfriend, Tom.
It looked a little something like this, plus a chocolate rose,
a dinosaur drawing and a couple cool cupcakes!

I think I'll put a few up on Etsy. They fit in two hands, and smile all day!

Last night by coincidence I found the neatest website for illustration competitions,
which lead me to find out about the wonderful design competition currently running on Don't Panic Online.
It's a comp to design a film poster for the film 'Norwegian Wood', originally a Haruki Murakami novel
turned film (directed by Tran Anh Hung). It is primarily a design comp, but it was very visually based
so I decided illustrating a but wouldn't be so bad. Here was my submission...

Norwegian Wood;

Voting is still being held for the next 12 days, so if you'd be so gracious as to help me
out and vote for my design (only if you like it best, of course) you can go HERE and hit
vote! I'll also tell you a bit about the design whilst I'm bullying you into voting for me-
I mean- lovingly asking! This is what the novel is about (text from the Don't Panic site):

"NORWEGIAN WOOD is a story of love and heartbreak in a time of global instability.
As students around the world are uniting to overthrow the establishment, Toru Watanabe’s
personal life is similarly in tumult. At heart, he is deeply devoted to his first love, Naoko,
a beautiful and introspective young woman. But their complex bond has been forged by a
tragedy years before, until Midori, a girl who is everything that Naoko is not –
outgoing, vivacious, supremely self-confident – marches into his life and Watanabe must choose
between his past and his future."

So I went with the idea of a fragile songbird, which I used to symbolize
Naoko, being cradled by her relationship with Toru. I also overlayed
the notes of the Beatles' Norwegian Wood as well as a quote from the
novel to fit with the theme. Hope you like it.

In other news, (even more, wuah!), I am also currently working on a new exhibition
as I've been talking about over and over again, and I need some help...
Anyone out there who has spare/broken skateboards to donate, please contact me,
I am in the Melbourne CBD area, and am in desperate need! You will be helping
out a lot of good illustrators, photographers and promotional kids! I'll let you
know more later. I'm a bit everywhere right now, I've been on this computer so
long my arm is about to pop out off my torso and slap me 'round because of the
burning between my shoulder blades, boo! I seriously need a break!

Anyway, I'll be off then. Hope you're all having a wonderful day.

Many hearts, hands and hugs,

Love;
Amz. x

I'm getting a Panda...

... Goldfish!

Jello Jeam!
(Hello Team!)

So today was both AWFUL and WONDROUS.

It started with not being able to sleep, and ended with a fishtank.
Like most days, it was a little everywhere (my days are always like
that). I'm glad to say, though, that after watching
Black-Cannibalistic-bobble-eyed-fish being... well, cannibals,
my day looked up. I am fortunate enough to be a part of this
Sunday's Brunswick Charles Street Arts Market. I will be peddling
my jewelry like a desperate beggar... with style. (I am not that desperate,
but I liked the phrase in my head). It'll be held from 12 noon- 5PM at
The Sporting Club, Brunswick 27 Weston St. Brunswick.
Just one street off Sydney Rd, across the road from Barkly Square.

I am looking forward to selling clay cheesecakes and plush whales. You
can get a feel of the kind of things I'll be selling from taking a look at my Etsy.
I'll be with my sister, Steph, 3D artist and sketch-a-holic!
Come down and say hello. I'm the blonde in the "dirty-sailor-beanie" (Quoting
my Mother there, she hates the old beanie I stole off my Dad)!

Back to the fish... so yeah, I'm dying for a panda golfish! I have only found
one stockist in Melbourne and am so peeved of all the fishies, they have
no black and white ones. (BOO!) I mean, kudos that you have orange
panda fish, but the black ones are what I want!! I'm going to order some in
asap. I have the tank (carried the bitch in Wittner's giganto heels eight blocks
in this bloody Aussie humidity, THANKS SUMMER!) so cheap and tacky, but
waterproof and neat looking. I really am dying for a panda goldfish and a
black moor goldfish (I already picked the name Hugo, yay!) to be chillin'
in the filtered, pebbled, fake-plant-ed tank!

Anywho, on the arts end (haha, so bad haven't talked about art all post)
I did a little painting then realized why I hated painting, so am sticking
to fimo/sculpey for now and photoshop. My Avante Cards are out, about,
and being recieved quite well. My Mum works at Melbourne Museum
and said the stand was cleared out of my Loveasaurus Art in less than
a WEEK! I am so chuffed! No news on any work through Avante Card but
I still have my fingers crossed.

I am also planning an exhibition once more with my dearest, closest
and most amazing friend in the whole entire world, Kitty. It looks like
it'll be up around April/May and the artists to join us are yet to be
selected. It's also shaping up to be on Smith Street (neat), if everything
turns out good. Anyway, this post is too long. Next update will be about
the Market stall, my childhood inspiration, a professional cupcake
class I'm doing with my kickass Mum and ordering fish.

Fish, Fimo and Fortune,

Amz; xo

Call me Madame!

Ahoy!
So here I am, sitting in my jammies. It's past midday and
I haven't changed because I've been so obsessed with Etsy!
Speaking of which... GRAND OPENING AHOY!
Sneak peek of a couple of items....

So here's my new Etsy store, only a couple of things up so
far but it's not too bad. ;)
I've been creating jewellery with no purpose for such a
long time, it's good to finally have it up for sale.
In other news my Avantcards came through. A great big box
of 500 came to my door yesterday, how lovely! I have already
had some potential job prospects from the release. But that's
all top secret, I don't want to jinx myself. All I'll say is that this
dinosaur piece is going far...
Anyway, I'll update again soon. I've been being a little slack
as of late.
Etsy and Emails,
Amz; x
